Huntington Beach is affectionately known as Surf City USA thanks to its eight miles of coastline, iconic pier and surf culture. The city’s median home price hovers around $1 million, and residents enjoy ocean breezes, a lively downtown boardwalk and events like the U.S. Open of Surfing. Families are drawn to the highly rated schools and numerous parks, while professionals appreciate an easy commute to Orange County employment hubs.

Last summer I helped a family relocate to Huntington Beach from out of state. We spent a sunny afternoon exploring Main Street and watching their kids marvel at surfers riding the waves. By the end of the day, they were sold on the community’s laid-back vibe and decided to make downtown their new home.

Top 10 Huntington Beach Neighborhoods

Downtown Huntington Beach

The heart of Huntington Beach revolves around its lively downtown district. Anchored by a 1,850-foot pier and legendary surf breaks, this neighborhood offers a mix of beach cottages, mid-century homes and newer condos. Residents can walk to surf shops and restaurants along Main Street and enjoy events like the U.S. Open of Surfing. Schools are highly rated, and the community exudes a youthful, active vibe.

Pro Tip: Consider homes within a few blocks of the pier to enjoy front-row seats for surf contests and festivals.

Part of the Los Alamitos Unified School District, the area offers low crime rates and a tight-knit community.

Pro Tip: Waterfront homes with west-facing backyards capture stunning harbor sunsets.
